In 1 Samuel 17:26, David asks, "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?" This question reveals David's perspective - he wasn't seeing just a physical giant, but someone who dared to mock the God of Israel.
While the entire Israelite army cowered in fear, David was offended that anyone would dare disrespect his God. This wasn't about David's personal courage; it was about his understanding of who God is and what He can do.
When David volunteered to fight Goliath, the army tried to outfit him with their armor. But it didn't fit - it was too heavy and cumbersome. David couldn't move effectively in someone else's equipment.
This teaches us an important lesson: not everyone's advice or methods will work for you. Be careful about taking something from anybody. Not everybody is going to be able to give you what you need to fight your battle.
Just because certain strategies work for others doesn't mean they'll work for you. As Christians, we need advice that aligns with "thus saith the Lord" rather than worldly wisdom. Our job is always to represent Christ correctly.
David had confidence because he remembered how God had helped him defeat both a lion and a bear while protecting his sheep. His past victories gave him confidence for his present challenge.
We too must remember the times when God has brought us through difficult situations. If He did it before, He can do it again. This gives us the confidence to say, "How dare you try me. You don't know who you're messing with. I am a child of the King."
This week, when challenges arise and the enemy tries to intimidate you, remember David's confidence. Stand tall and declare to your situation: "How dare you try me? You don't know who you're messing with!"
Ask yourself:
Remember, when Christ died on the cross, He took the sting out of death and the victory away from the grave. He made you victorious. Now you just have to walk in that victory. The enemy may still come and taunt you, but you can look your situation dead in the face and say, "How dare you try me? You don't know who you're messing with!"
